Crime Prevention Programs and Safety Tips
[return] The Crime Prevention Unit's mission is to provide on-going educational programs and presentations to the campus community. With the assistance of the Community Service Officers and Patrol Division, the Crime Prevention Unit has presented general personal safety, workplace violence, sexual assault, property and auto theft, drug and alcohol awareness, bicycle safety, domestic violence and identity theft presentations to students, faculty, and staff. We provide yearly safety training to all housing resident advisors. The training introduces Police procedures and expectations for handling crimes in progress, hazardous conditions, medical aids, sexual assaults, drug identification and protocols for handling fire alarms. The SDSU Police Department's Crime Prevention Unit is staffed by one part-time officer and augmented by patrol officers and CSOs. Campus Safety ActThe SDSU Police Department works hard to ensure that everyone in the SDSU community is aware of safety issues that may affect them. The Campus Safety Act, also known as the Jeanne Clery Act, requires universities to report annual crime statistics, provide timely warnings of serious crimes when there may be a threat to others, and to keep a public log of campus incidents. SDSU is in full compliance with this federal mandate, and our Safety and Security Reports are available to the entire campus community. The Clery Act also requires universities to offer prevention programs to the campus community. To comply, we provide a variety of programs such as:
You are encouraged to make use of these valuable safety precautions. Our police officers would much rather meet you in one of our prevention programs than take a crime report from you regarding an incident that might have been prevented. We are dedicated to educating the campus community about personal crime prevention strategies to reduce the likelihood of crime on and off campus. For additional information, download a brochure from our publications page, visit the links below, or feel free to contact us with your questions or comments. [return]
